LANCE

Lance: Right After Surgery
Lance was hit by a car one summer Saturday in 1997. Because he was a stray, he was taken away by animal control and held the required 48 hours. No one claimed him.

When Rescue was called we found a filthy, matted 2-3 year-old tri-colored male obviously in pain with a totally useless left front leg. He had lacerations on his front paws and one hip. And gentle eyes. He made no protest when the animal control officer stuffed him into the crate in the back of our car, or when the vet carried him into the examining room. He wagged his tail while he was examined and his broken leg was manipulated. When his toes were pinched to test for nerve damage he cried, but made no attempt to growl, snap or even pull away from the vet. The x-ray confirmed the diagnosis of a complicated 'butterfly' fracture that should be repaired with a plate and screws. Lance stretched out on his side and wagged as the vet explained our very clear-cut options: put him down or spend a lot of money.

The dog was young, nice, and repairable: we spent the money. That's why Rescue exists. Lance endured three hours of surgery during which a plate and screws were inserted to repair his leg. After two more surgeries over six months to loosen and then remove the screws, he recovered without even a limp. He was adopted by his foster home and is a robust 11 years now.

Thanks to the caring generosity of our supporters Lance didn't have to die because of a broken leg.

Lance: Today
Raven & Val
Raven and Val came to rescue from New Jersey in June of 2003 when their owner died. Raven, a tri-colored girl was 4 years-old and Val, a white boy with a tri-colored head, was 2. They were lucky enough to be adopted together, and now have a wonderful home in Maryland.
Alley, Victoria & Faith
Alley

These three sisters were 3 years-old when they came to Rescue from Erie, PA in November of 2002. Their breeder was moving and was going to take them to a shelter. Allie is the only dog in her new home and is very happy about it.

Faith has Mickey, another rescue Collie and Piper, a frisky Collie pup to keep her company. Faith has recently earned her first leg toward a title in Rally Obedience Competition. We're all very proud of her.

Faith and Mickey

Mickey was picked up as a stray and came to Rescue in March, 2003. He was a wonderful, sweet boy. And he was blind.

He functions very well despite his lack of vision, and is now safe and happy with Faith, the obedience rescue dog, and Piper (not shown), the pup.

Victoria & Scotty
Victoria found a home with Scotty, a smooth male Rescue had placed several years ago.
Duke
Duke came into Rescue in April 2003 because his owners didn't want him anymore. He was an active, intelligent 3 year old with an attitude. After 16 months he finally found a happy home last September. His new folks keep him busy and take him everywhere with them, and Duke is in his glory.
Chance
Chance was given to a shelter when he was 3 years old because is owners didn't want him anymore. He was returned to the shelter when he was 5, because the owners moved and couldn't take him along. Then he came to Rescue and was adopted and returned. He finally found his permanent home last fall with Quinn, another resue Collie. Chance and Quinn have become great friends, even going to obedience class together.

CHLOE came to Rescue from a shelter after being turned in as a stray. She was a quiet, sweet girl estimated to be about 6 years old. Now she's living a happy new life with the Thompson family.

Rescue proved lucky for them - they were adopted together into a wonderful home where they are receiving all the love and attention they deserve.
